Old English Building Meets New Peplink Connectivity Infrastructure
The network infrastructure built to meet a user’s requirements depends on several factors such as the location, applications to be used, budget, and even the number of users. Oftentimes, these factors call for specific equipment to be deployed. In one instance, a Peplink partner’s client chose to hold their annual meeting at St George’s Hall in Liverpool and required a reliable internet network.
Challenge
While the old English building had an existing network, the meeting was expected to have 1000 guests in attendance. The client had previously experienced connectivity issues and required an enhanced network to ensure all devices would have access to sufficient bandwidth and speeds.
The old English building and the large number of users presented several challenges. There was limited space and power availability for equipment installation. Additionally, the Peplink partner had to work within a set budget to ensure a network solution that would operate without a single point of failure. These constraints eliminated the possibility of conveniently adding more units to alleviate congestion and meet the increased demand.
Solution
Designed to handle high network traffic, an EPX was installed as the core of the solution in the old English building. Dual BR2 Pros were then added for cellular connectivity. The EPX provided the Peplink partner with the flexibility to connect a 1GB fiber line while utilizing cellular services. Diverse routes were established for fiber optic cables to provide redundancy should a pathway or system unexpectedly fail.
Several 24-port SD Switches were connected to the EPX at St George’s Hall, with up to 20 AP One AXs attached and placed along each side of the building. This placement ensured there was no dead zone in the main room where the meeting was to take place, as well as create independent systems. To monitor the network, the Peplink partner set up battery-powered Transit Duo Pros and enabled InControl’s Air Monitor feature.
Result
The configuration provided the Peplink partner with the means to monitor the network in the old English building, providing reports on the connectivity at key locations. The fiber connection offered guests with ample high-speed connectivity, while the cellular connections were on standby for backup.
During the event, one of the physical cables was accidentally damaged, breaking one of the lines of access points. However, with the independent systems in place, the overall Wi-Fi connectivity remained uninterrupted throughout the meeting.
