Unbreakable 5G: Peplink x SmarTone Solutions Powers Real-Time Sync for Global Sporting Stage
When the World Games Series came to Hong Kong for the first time, success hinged on one thing: unbreakable connectivity. With millions watching across 51 countries, any delay, error or network failure could undermine the entire event.
Together with SmarTone Solutions, Peplink delivered a powerful, reliable and intelligently managed 5G network, ensuring seamless operations, real-time scoring, and flawless global broadcasting.
Challenge
The venue needed to support simultaneous data transmissions for real-time scoring via Swiss Timing, multi-angle HD replays, video arbitration decisions, and live multi-angle broadcasts. With over 200 athletes, thousands of guests, and tightly integrated systems operating in parallel, even a brief network disruption risked compromising scoring accuracy, arbitration reliability and broadcast quality.
Solution
Peplink’s SDX and BR1 Pro 5G were selected for their proven reliability in mission-critical environments. Two SDXs served as core routers in High Availability mode, working alongside two firewalls. Five BR1 Pro 5G units, deployed at key locations, were connected to the core network via SmarTone 5G network, establishing SpeedFusion VPN tunnels to enable seamless connectivity. Combined with SmarTone Solutions’ private 5G, the network delivered ultra-low latency and high-capacity performance — supporting everything from athlete tracking and scoring updates to real-time HD video transmission.
With InControl 2, Peplink’s cloud-based management platform, SmarTone Solutions’ technical teams could troubleshoot network issues, adjust bandwidth, and configure user access all from a single dashboard. InTouch, a key feature of InControl 2, enabled them to manage all network devices behind the Peplink routers. Additionally, a captive portal was implemented to support customized landing pages for users.
Result
Operating in High Availability mode, the two SDX units ensured hardware redundancy for mission-critical operations, while five BR1 Pro 5G units, leveraging SmarTone Solutions’ private 5G network, provided stable, high-speed connectivity throughout the venue. The entire network was monitored and managed through InControl 2, enabling rapid response times and seamless coordination among teams. As a result, the system delivered synchronized live scoring, reliable global broadcasting, and a responsive arbitration platform — all without a single instance of downtime.

With live broadcasts on 211 channels across 51 countries, over 200 athletes competing, and more than 500 guests both indoors and outdoors at the venue, everyone experienced the event uninterrupted.
