Comwell Korsør

Hospitality | Connectivity

Comwell Korsør on Zealand is part of the hotel chain Comwell Hotels. The hotel chain has 15 hotels in Denmark and another two in Sweden. Comwell focuses on arranging conferences as well as general meetings for companies. In 2017, they won the award for “Best Meeting Concept of the Year” for the third year in a row.

Challenge

Due to the size of their grounds, Comwell Korsør relied on mobile phones for communication between staff. However, it was not a flexible nor stable solution. Sometimes the mobile signal would be poor or completely gone, and sound reproduction was bad in both phones and headsets. Another problem was that the phones could not hold enough power for an entire working day and the lines were often blocked with conversations. In addition, there was also a financial cost associated with mobile phone subscriptions. In short, Comwell Korsør had a desire to streamline communication between employees and adopt a more flexible communication solution.

Solution

Northcom’s solution was to deploy Icom’s Wi-Fi radios with Peplink’s router and access points. Due to this, the system uses a gap between license-free radios and licensed radios. This solution is easy to connect to existing wireless networks and it also allows you to communicate in full duplex with high sound quality.

Northcom deployed the following products:

  • Icom IP1000C controller
  • Peplink SDX router which allows for remote support
  • Peplink Wi-Fi Access points
  • Icom IP100H Wi-Fi radios
  • ProEquip headset and discreet earbuds

In addition, the system can be expanded with an IP-based PC dispatcher. This can then make calls to radios or groups, send text messages, and display on a map where individual radios are located.

Result

Restaurant manager Martin Castillo says that he can feel that Comwell is now saving a lot of time with the new system. It is more efficient and flexible, and it has become much easier for employees to get in touch with each other. The sound reproduction is clear and distinct, and the radios can have enough power for an entire working day. In fact, they can operate for up to 27 hours depending on the conditions. Therefore, there is only a need for them to be recharged overnight. Furthermore, Comwell praises the fast and efficient service from Northcom. The system is set up in such a way that it can be accessed remotely and changes can be made from Northcom’s own workshop. This means that there is no need to book a technician to do on site maintenance.
