Network Innovations Transforms Remote Machinery Control with Peplink

Industrial operations, whether mining or construction, often take place in remote environments and hazardous sites, which have brought about the trend of remote controlled heavy machinery. Network Innovations delivers solutions to meet unique, operations-focused customer needs such as this.

Challenge

Industrial operations in remote areas often struggle with connectivity, impacting workforce productivity and safety. A large manufacturer of unmanned machinery, including diggers, lift trucks, and excavators, relies on remote control technology for operations. To ensure optimal performance, they required a powerful solution in the trailer housing the command-and-control systems to build a stable link to the job site. Without reliable network coverage, disruptions could undermine safety and efficiency, creating the need for a robust network solution in these challenging environments.

Solution

The manufacturer turned to Network Innovations for a trailer-to-machine connectivity solution. They deployed the BR2 Pro to the trailer and the job site as it provides high-speed, multi-WAN internet connectivity. Working as the central hub, the BR2 Pro bonds multiple connections and delegates network traffic through these connections for improved network efficiency. Network Innovations also specified select connections as designated backups to fail over seamlessly should the primary connection go down.

Additionally, the connection provided by the BR2 Pro facilitates the stream of live video feeds back to the trailer. Crane diggers equipped with cameras deliver a clear operational view of the job site. The bonded connectivity provides sufficient bandwidth to ensure high-quality feeds, achieving situational awareness for safety.

MAX BR2 Pro

Result

With InControl, Network Innovations and the manufacturer can conveniently manage all Peplink devices and monitor network performance. Using the BR2 Pro with SpeedFusion technology enabled fast and secure internet at the remote job site. Workers can confidently operate and conveniently exchange key information between teams.

For job sites with even more connectivity challenges, Network Innovations plans to pair the BR2 Pro with their uLink SIM cards, enabling users to access multiple network operators through a single SIM. Furthermore, with Peplink’s easy integration with Starlink, they have the option to include Starlink’s satellite service for sites where cellular signals are out of reach.

“By integrating multiple cellular connections into a single robust link, our client has accurate control of their equipment. This enhanced system ensures seamless communication between the control units and the machinery.”
