ENIGMA XK

Internet Connectivity | Maritime

For more than a decade, the Enigma XK was used to protect the fishing grounds off Scotland. In 2010, the ENIGMA XK was redesigned into a 71.4m luxury expedition yacht.

“More than simple products, we really appreciate the service we have in our operations thanks to SeaSatcom’s Support Operation Center expert hands.”

Challenges

The IT infrastructure on board the yacht was a stack of routers and L3/L2 switches due to multiple installations and upgrades by successive integrators. Over the years, connected systems have been installed on-board as add-ons to the existing LAN, resulting in hours of maintenance to troubleshoot issues and unexpected slowness.

Solution

Through a long and reliable partnership with the end customer, SeaSatCom proposed to meet the client’s expectations using Peplink’s infrastructure on board the ENIGMA XK (72m expedition yacht to the Antarctic). SeaSatCom used the full benefit of Peplink’s InControl to enable a shore-based IT support service with the support of FrontierBV. Through this Cloud-based management and monitoring solution, SeaSatCom’s Support Operation Center (SOC) was able to meet the client’s expectations as per the agreed SLA.

Just a few minutes of connecting and set up provide a real peace of mind for the crew and a reliable service for the owner and his guests. As a Peplink certified Partner, SeaSatCom was 100% sure to deliver an integrated LAN to support all of the connected systems (IT/AV/CCTV/LIGHTS/HVAC and TELEMEDICINE) to allow the customer to monitor bandwidth, control traffic, and manage WAN costs (VSAT and 4G).

Result

Since the ENIGMA XK was located in Cape Town (ZA), the installation was done remotely by the Support Operation Center (SOC) via InControl features. The full setup was performed with minimal headache for the crew who only had to patch the cables on switch ports as instructed in SeaSatCom’s “Network Installation and Commissioning” guide.

Multiple AV and IT connected systems on board the vessel were easily integrated after a full analysis of the existing data flows and without having to spend hours to modify device parameters. SeaSatCom’s engineering department composed of Peplink certified professionals know what to check before preparing such a major LAN refit on board a yacht.

FrontierBV gave them the best technical support to fulfill their needs and the well documented infrastructure is now fully managed and monitored by Peplink certified engineers through the SeaSatCare solution. As a result, the solution was successfully installed thanks to FrontierBV and SeaSatCom’s efforts.
