Starlink delivers strong satellite connectivity, but deploying it for business or mission-critical use introduces challenges that Starlink alone does not address. These include combining multiple Starlink connections for more bandwidth, maintaining sessions during satellite handoffs, managing connectivity across remote sites, and integrating Starlink with other link types such as cellular or Ethernet.
Peplink is a Starlink Authorized Technology Partner. Yes. Peplink SpeedFusion bonds multiple Starlink connections at the packet level, allowing a single download, stream, or application session to utilize the combined throughput of all connected Starlinks simultaneously.
Starlink and cellular offer complementary strengths. Starlink provides wide coverage and high throughput, but connectivity can be affected during satellite handoffs or physical obstructions. Cellular typically offers more consistent low-latency connectivity, although bandwidth and coverage may be limited depending on location.
SpeedFusion Bonding integrates both connection types, allowing traffic to dynamically use whichever link is performing best.
Starlinks must be mounted outdoors to maintain a clear view of the sky. If the cellular router remains indoors, signal strength may be reduced, especially in vehicles, vessels, or remote sites with metal enclosures or heavy shielding.
The Peplink Antenna MAX S addresses this by integrating a Starlink Mini and a 5G/LTE cellular router into a single IP-rated outdoor unit. Both connections benefit from optimal signal reception with a single hardware installation, eliminating the need to compromise between weather protection and performance.
Common hybrid configurations include:
- Starlink + cellular bonded together: maximum combined throughput from both links simultaneously
- Starlink with cellular as a gap filler: cellular absorbs traffic during satellite handoffs or temporary obstructions
- Coastal or urban cellular + open-water Starlink: seamless transition as vessels or vehicles move between coverage areas
Peplink includes several features designed to address satellite connectivity challenges:
- Smoothing fills brief connectivity gaps during satellite handoffs, keeping VoIP and video sessions stable.
- Hot Failover redistributes traffic to remaining links in under one second so active sessions continue without interruption. When Starlink is bonded with 5G/LTE, cellular automatically absorbs traffic during Starlink interruptions.
- SpeedFusion Boost prevents lower-performing Starlink links from holding back overall throughput, optimizing the performance of your bonded connections.
- Ignore Obstruction Outages prevents a Starlink connection from being immediately disconnected when brief obstructions occur. When combined with SpeedFusion, traffic seamlessly transitions to unaffected links during interruptions, keeping sessions alive without manual intervention.
These decisions occur at the router level using real-time link monitoring, enabling faster responses than software-only approaches that lack direct visibility into each connection.
SpeedFusion Boost is a feature of SpeedFusion designed to enhance the efficiency and overall performance of bonded networks. With SpeedFusion Boost enabled, data continues to be transmitted at high speed, even when individual links are lossy.
Multi-Starlink networks bond multiple independent Starlink links, each of which may experience varying network conditions, such as orbital handovers and obstructions. SpeedFusion Boost is designed for exactly these conditions. It prevents temporary disruptions on individual links from impacting the overall bonded connection, helping maintain consistently high throughput across multi-Starlink deployments.
Both work. Starlink Residential, Business, and Priority plans are all compatible, and no special service tier is required.
Some networking solutions require a Starlink Business plan with a static IP because they cannot establish tunnels behind Starlink’s network restrictions. SpeedFusion does not have this limitation. It initiates an outbound tunnel from the router, allowing it to work with any Starlink service plan.
The SpeedFusion bonding feature is included with most Peplink routers. However, some entry-level models (BR2, BR2 Micro, B One, BR1 Mini) require a PrimeCare subscription or feature pack license to enable it.
SpeedFusion also requires a remote peer. Your choice of remote peer determines any ongoing costs:
- Physical Peplink router (site-to-site): hardware only, no recurring cost.
- FusionHub (self-hosted VM on AWS, Azure, Vultr, or on-prem): hosting costs only.
- SpeedFusion Connect (Peplink-hosted cloud): subscription cost based on usage plan.
To utilize multiple Starlinks, you may need more WAN ports than your router physically has. Most Peplink routers have a limited number of physical WAN ports, which can become a bottleneck in large deployments.
Virtual WAN removes that constraint. It converts LAN ports into additional WAN inputs via software, so you can connect more Starlink connections without upgrading your hardware. Detailed configuration can be found here.
InControl is Peplink's cloud management platform. It gives you a single dashboard to monitor and configure all your bonded sites, whether you have 2 locations or 200.
From the InControl dashboard, you can:
- View real-time Starlink telemetry and diagnostics per site
- Stow/unstow Starlink units remotely with one click
- Push configuration changes across sites without visiting them
- Track GPS location (pulled directly from Starlink no extra hardware)
- Set alerts for link failures or performance degradation
InControl is available as a cloud-hosted service or an on-premise deployment for organizations that require data sovereignty or air-gapped environments.
