Sematron selects Peplink for new ruggedized multi-bearer IP delivery

Automatic bonding and failover capability helps clients to seamlessly roam between 4G, satellite and Wi-Fi connectivity to improve communication flexibility and reduce costs

UK, 10th September 2015 – Peplink, a leader in developing internet load balancing and VPN bonding solutions, has announced its technology has been integrated into a new outdoor Wi-Fi access-point for multi-bearer applications developed by Sematron, a commutation technology specialist.

The Sematron Wi-Fi ‘Rugged’ is the latest in a range of outdoor products that forms the heart of a multi-bearer IP delivery solution and incorporates multiple WAN connection system including Wi-Fi, Satellite and GSM. Built around an IP65 rated enclosure, the Wi-Fi Rugged can be directly located onto Sematron’s ruggedized IP satellite modem platform or used as a standalone IP gateway.

At the heart of the new model is a Peplink MAX BR1 and as Dave Nicoll, international sales for Sematron explains, “We had looked at a number of products to add cellular functionality to our existing satellite based solution and the MAX BR1 met our engineering specification at the right price point while proving incredibly reliable during our field testing.”

Sematron products have proven popular with managed communication service providers and are already used by enterprise customers including major broadcasters and news gathering organisations for remote communication links. Other areas of deployment include petrochemical, construction, military and blue light services that need rapidly deployed voice and data communication while out in the field.

“We were particularly impressed with the ability of the MAX BR1 to seamlessly bond multiple bearers and cellular links which when available allows lower cost routing compared to just a satellite connection,” adds Nicoll, “The new Sematron Wi-Fi ‘Rugged’ is offered at a highly competitive price point and has the potential to open up newer markets that want to utilise the growing availability of 4G/LTE cellular networks as an alternative to satellite and we look forward to working closely with Peplink on future variants that may well fit our broad communication portfolio.”

The MAX BR1 is an automatic Failover 4G LTE Router which offers redundant SIM slots with automatic switching, DC or terminal block power capability, advanced GPS fleet tracking, and remote management, all packed into a durable metal enclosure with shock and vibration resistance tested to EN 61373:1999, IEC 61373:1999 standards.
