How to Block or Allow Specific Protocols Going across Peplink Balance?

You can set up Inbound or Outbound Firewall Rules to block or allow specific protocols going across Peplink Balance. Below are two examples to show how these firewall rules can be set up.

Inbound Firewall Rule

User wants to block all inbound SMTP traffic except those with the destination of 192.168.1.10:25.

Navigate to Network > Firewall > Access Rules. Set up the “Allow” rule under Outbound Firewall Rule. The only SMTP traffic that is allowed to pass through the Peplink Balance is SMTP traffic with the destination: 192.168.1.10:25.

Edit the default firewall rule and set it as “Deny”. All other inbound traffic will then be blocked by default.

The Inbound Firewall Rules should look like this.

Outbound Wirewall Rule

User wants to block outbound HTTP traffic from a single source of 192.168.1.22.

Navigate to Network > Firewall > Access Rules. Set up the “Deny” rule under Outbound Firewall Rule. HTTP traffic from 192.168.1.22 is restricted and blocked.

Edit the default firewall rule and set it as “Allow”. By default, all outbound traffic will then be allowed to pass through the Peplink Balance.

The Outbound Firewall Rules should look like this.
